Restaurants

Bistro de Schaar, Hoolstraat 2, is an excellent restaurant with a modern feel that specialises in superb meats, beef and lamb. The starters of fresh water shrimps and fish soup were also excellent, fairly pricey but worth the money.

Poules Moules, Simon Stevinplein, is a modern style moules and frites restaurant. There is great variety of sauces and they will serve a portion to share for a surcharge

The chip stalls under the Belfry supposedly has best chips in Belgium, they were certainly excellent.

Bars

Café Vlissinghe, Biekerstraat 2, is reputedly the oldest bar in Bruges, they have a large selection of beers as you would expect and also serve food which gets good reports.

‘t Brugs Beertje, Kemelstraat 5, is a fantastic bar with around 300 beers, it does not serve main meals but has some good snacks to help with all the beer. It is shut on Wednesdays.

De Garre, De Garre 1, worth finding it is in a very narrow passage off Breidelstraat, they have their own beer and also do meat and cheese platters.

Het Dreupelhuisje , Kemelstraat 9, is a tiny bar where the speciality is flavoured gin and advocaat, try the pineapple advocaat

De Hobbit, Kemelstraat 4, is a late opening bar with good beers, stick to the drinks as the reports on the food are not great,

Bars

La Chaloupe D’Or, 24-25 Grande Place, is a pricey but lovely bar on the Grande Place, it is worth a visit for a drink.

La Morte Subite , 7 Rue Montagne aux Herbes Potageres, at the back of the Galleries is a very traditional bar, it is high on the list of must visit bars.

Toone, Impasse Schuddeveld 6, off Petite rue des Bouchers belongs to a puppet theatre worth finding as a unique place to have a drink and sample some fine Belgium beer.
